Robin Côté, facteur d’orgues
Solidement formé à la Maîtrise des Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal, c’est à l’Oratoire Saint-Joseph-du-Mont-Royal, en assistant Raymond Daveluy, que Robin Côté est initié à l’orgue. Fasciné par le processus de fabrication des orgues, il se joint en 2002 à l’équipe de l’atelier Juget-Sinclair Facteurs d’orgues pour y entreprendre un apprentissage complet. Il se rend ensuite en France pour y parfaire ses connaissances en restauration d’orgues du XIXe siècle, en fabrication des tuyaux de montre en étain et en conception des instruments symphoniques de style français au sein de l’entreprise S.A.R.L. Michel Jurine Facteur d’orgues, à Lyon. Robin Côté s’est formé dans tous les domaines essentiels à la fabrication des orgues : du coulage du métal à l’harmonisation. Lors de ses nombreux voyages d’études, il a obtenu l’accès privilégié à l’intérieur de plusieurs instruments significatifs de France, d’Allemagne, de Suède, des USA et de Lettonie. Robin Côté porte aussi une grande attention à documenter les instruments anciens du Canada, en particulier ceux du facteur montréalais Louis Mitchell. Sa volonté de vulgariser et de démocratiser les connaissances se traduit par la publication de nombreux articles et conférences. Ayant contribué depuis plus de quinze ans à la réalisation d’une quarantaine de projets d’orgues neufs et de restaurations autant comme facteur, dessinateur ou harmoniste, Robin Côté partage avec ses coéquipiers la volonté de réaliser des instruments sans compromis sur la qualité et le raffinement. Robin Côté se démarque pour ses capacités à élaborer des concepts d’orgues neufs autant du côté technique qu’artistique. C’est pourquoi il évolue comme associé (33%) à partir de 2013 et reprend en 2018 le flambeau à la présidence de la maison Juget-Sinclair facteurs d’orgues aux côtés de Stephen Sinclair.

Robin Côté first grew up musically at St. Joseph’s Oratory in Montréal receiving a strong musical training from Les Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal. It’s also at that time that he was initiated to the organ turning the pages and pulling the stops for Raymond Daveluy at the Oratory’s monumental Beckerath organ. Rapidly fascinated by the process of organ building, he joined the Juget-Sinclair team in 2002 to receive a complete apprenticeship. He went to France to work with Michel Jurine S.A.R.L. near Lyon to improve his understanding of the French Symphonic organ design, 19e century organ restoration techniques and the traditional way of making polished tin façade pipes. Robin Côté got to learn every essential techniques to build every parts of the organ: from metal casting to voicing. During numerous study trips, Robin Côté had the chance to get free access to the inside of many significative instruments of France, Sweden, Latvia & USA. He also put a great importance in documenting historic organs of Canada, in particular those built by the Montreal organ builder Louis Mitchell. His will to share this knowledge materialized in the writing of many articles and lectures. Since 15 years, having contributed to the making of more than 40 new organ projects as general organ builder as well as designer & voicer, Robin Côté is sharing with his team the will of building organs without compromising anything on the quality and refinement. That’s why he evolved as one-third partner since 2013 and now co-owner along with Stephen Sinclair, taking part of the administration of the Juget-Sinclair workshop as president since 2018.
